The Word On The Street Vancouver expands to three days

September 7, 2011

The Word On The Street Vancouver—Vancouver’s reading, writing, and publishing extravaganza—is back for its 17th year! This year, the festival takes place over three days, September 23-25, 2011.

The festival, as always, will take place on the last Sunday of September at Library Square, with additional programming all day Saturday at new partner, Carnegie Centre, as well as Friday evening programming at Banyen Books & Sound and Historic Joy Kogawa House.

Bryan Pike, Word On The Street Producer, says, “We are delighted to be moving into three days of free programming. Our new partnerships with Carnegie Centre, Banyen Books & Sound, and Historic Joy Kogawa House, expand not just our programming, but our geography, bringing The Word On The Street to several venues in different areas of the city.”

Randy Gatley, Acting head, Carnegie Branch, Vancouver Public Library, says, “Carnegie Library and the Carnegie Centre are thrilled to be partnering with Word on the Street to bring Word On The Street events to the Downtown Eastside. For a community of such avid readers and writers, not only does this partnership make a lot of sense, it’s also incredibly exciting!”

FREE, accessible, and fun for all ages, Vancouver’s annual celebration of reading brings visitors face to face with our vibrant writing and publishing community. Word lovers will find author readings, writing and publishing exhibits, musical entertainment, roving performers, children’s activities, and much more—Sunday, September 25 at Library Square (Homer and Hamilton Streets between Robson and Georgia), a full day of readings and workshops at Carnegie Centre on Saturday September 24 (Main and Hastings), and events Friday evening at Joy Kogawa House and Banyen Books & Sound.

The Word On The Street is Canada’s favourite annual book and magazine extravaganza, taking place in Vancouver, Toronto, Kitchener, Lethbridge, Saskatoon, and Halifax simultaneously.
