This Year’s Visual Exhibits

September 19, 2011

Once again this year, The Word On The Street Festival will boast a fantastic variety of visual displays inside the Library on Sunday, September 25.

Upstairs in the Library Promenade you will find The Annual Silent Auction where attendees can support the festival and treat themselves to something fabulous at the same time! Items have been donated by publishers, restaurants, hotels, businesses and more.

Also in the Promenade, The BC Book Arts Guild will present a variety of fascinating Bookmaking Demos throughout the day. Watch one of the following hands-on demonstrations and be inspired by professional artists:

11:00-12:00 — Gina Page, mini-tunnel books
12:00-1:00 — Suzan Lee, making books from a single sheet of paper
1:00-2:00 — Lindsay Page, traditional books: alternative politics
2:00-3:00 — Reg Lissel, handmade paper
3:00-4:00 — Kassandra Bonn, simple book structures
4:00-5:00 — Jan Janovick, more book structures

Downstairs in the Library Moat you will find more great visual exhibits, including The Bookmark Show and the Carnegie Centre Chapbook Workshop Exhibition!

OCW Magazine will present The Bookmark Show — a non-juried exhibition of original artwork created by Canadian artists and designers. These custom bookmarks are created using a variety of mediums and materials, are functional for use and will be for sale at the Festival. Proceeds will go the non-profit OCW Arts & Publishing Foundation.

Chapbooks made by participants of the Carnegie Centre Workshop on Saturday will also be displayed and for sale! Chapbooks are short, self-published, homemade books that give writers the opportunity to circulate their work quickly and cost-efficiently. For more information about the workshop, visit our website.

See you this weekend!
